Karate Kids

The boys had their Karate birthday party on Saturday. What a blast. My kids have never taken karate and I always wondered how they would like it. It was awesome. We had 22 kids that were enthralled by the instructors. They paid attention and followed along with every move. I can't wait to sign up for more.

They started out with an obstacle course while everyone was arriving. This might have been the crowd favorite.

They went on to do a thirty minute lesson with Evan and Andy as honorary instructors. At the end of each learning segment the kids would bow and say "Happy Birthday Evan and Andy". Very cool.

Following the instruction time, Evan was called up to the front to break a board with his hand. The instructor showed him how and gave him some practice hits on a sparring glove. Then it only took him 2 tries to break the board. Had to be one of the best "mommy moments" ever. He was so excited he was practically floating.

Then Andy got a turn. The instructor could tell by his practice tries that he wasn't strong enough. He gave us the board for when he is older.

Then they ran relay races. After their turn they were told to sit with their hand in position.

Then we had cake and ice cream. We got a cute Halloween cake from the new Wegmans. It was great except for the black icing staining all their mouths!
After the party Nanni and Pops took the boys to Toys R Us to pick out their presents. After two hours of non stop shopping and playing with everything in the store, they both came out with great gifts.

Andy couldn't concentrate it was so exciting. But when it was time to go I sat him down on my lap and got him to take a deep breath. I said "Andy what toy do you want to take home with you?" He replied immediately "the dragon castle". So he picked the imaginext dragon castle playset. Its great and he is having a blast with it. I highly recommend this brand of toys for boys. They are like boy dollhouses. Full of imaginative play.

Evan chose a DS game that just came out that he really wanted. A webkin that he had his heart set on from the first minute we were in the store. And a baseball glove. He is very excited to play baseball for the first time in the spring. Pops got him some baseballs and oiled his glove for him. He is all set. If we get a nice day this week we will have to practice.
